Move your body

I see daily exercising as an act of kindness towards my body. A gentle workout provides me with a sense of vitality, and the satisfaction that comes from moving my body.

The body is a clever tool - one that definitely gets me through life. So, looking after it is essential to me.

Exercising contributes to your health and wellbeing…

Here I am not talking about exercising as a way to transform the appearance of your body or as a way to punish yourself for the slice of cake you have had. It’s not even about weight loss. In fact, it has been proven that exercising improves your body image even if weight loss was not achieved. This is because when you exercise, your body releases endorphins – known as the “happy hormones”. The release of endorphins can help in improving your mood, combating anxiety and depression and coping with stress. And even PMT. You just feel so much better in yourself!

Overall, exercising is essential for your health...

With so many health benefits like boosting your immune system, encouraging better sleep, improving your sex life, boosting your mood, enhancing your brain health, building and preserving bone mass – it just makes sense to make exercising part of you daily life.

If you don’t like the idea of “working out”, try not to think of it that way… Exercising should not be burdensome to you. Just remember why you are moving your body and all its benefits.

Don’t like the idea of a gym?

Go for a walk, jog or bike ride. Take a class like yoga, Pilates… dance, stretch… Find your favourite exercise. Something that you really love doing. Do not commit to anything that you don’t like. We are not inclined to stick to things we despise.

Moving your body should make you feel good – however you do it. Pay attention to how you feel when you are exercising and notice the exhilaration you feel when you are done.

And on that note, be mindful of how you treat your body – it is your temple after all, and really the only place you have to live. Be kind to it, be patient with it, how you treat it and what you put in it.
